Religious Conflict in the Americas free essay sample

As developments jumped up in the Americas, strict thoughts and strife appeared to quickly follow. At the point when Europeans settled in these regions, they carried with them their own unequivocally strict thoughts. These thoughts, obviously, were immensely not quite the same as the Polytheistic convictions of those local to the Americas and the encompassing areas. This prompted numerous contentions between the gatherings. The settling of the Europeans in these spots is a major factor in why the most unmistakable religion in the USA today is Christianity. The Aztec individuals were wildly strict. A significant number of their practices were fierce and permissive, for example, their Telepathically feast, where hostages where prisoners were agonizingly killed by ministers as individuals moved and celebrated. They were the prisoners of war that were killed. These wars and fights were normally pursued so as to overcome an ideal city or human advancement. When they were vanquished, the residents of that city were savage to partake in the Aztecan strict practices and ceremonies, as horrible and fierce the same number of saw them as. We will compose a custom exposition test on Strict Conflict in the Americas or then again any comparable theme explicitly for you Don't WasteYour Time Recruit WRITER Just 13.90/page Albeit neighboring people groups rehearsed such ways during that timeframe, their religions despite everything varied incredibly. Religion itself was once in a while the sole reason for an assault UT played a significant job in them. At the point when the Spanish vanquished the Aztec just as different pieces of the Americas, they shared substantially more than Just their language. It was the Catholic rulers who upheld Christopher Columbus journeys and investigations endeavors at first. Cortes himself guaranteed that the Spanish went to the New World to serve God, and to get rich as all men need to. By 1492, Spain was a savagely Catholic country; they had ousted the Jewish individuals and changed over the Muslims inside it. Constrained transformation from the Spanish among those they vanquished was normal or unfathomable during this time. The Spanish were to some degree merciless with their crucial proselyte all non-Christians and to suck the riches from these terrains, and wound up k illing numerous individuals in their way. It was anything but a quiet time. The Spanish accepted that it was their awesome option to assume control over these individuals, generally in light of the fact that as they did it, they constrained their religion on them. They accepted that in doing this, they were sparing the individuals and serving their obligations as Christians. It is said that the Christian religion inside these zones after it had spread far and wide contrasted unequivocally relying upon district. A few societies even mixed their polytheistic levels with the Spanish ones. Here and there, I accept that the basic Christian religion being spread all through Latin America bound together those nations and united them. Simultaneously, I think it was the foundation of a great deal of contention that could have in any case been dodged. In addition, the French strongly affected the individuals their vanquished too. France was a carefully all-Christian nation too. During the sixteenth century, France was starting to investigate the Saint Lawrence River and prompting the cession of New Frances and Great Britain in 1793. Back in France, the Protestant Reformation was going solid. Numerous Protestants lived in France at that point, in spite of the fact that they were abused by the state and enraged the Catholics. This mistreatment of Hugeness and Protestants was a bloodbath to so expressions, paving the way to the SST. Bartholomew Day Massacre of 1572. Strong thoughts of what religion was and what it ought to be were circling in full power among the French during this time. The Huron were among the primary locals to have contact with the French. Jacques Carrier lead the investigation of the Saint Lawrence district in 1534. A solid bond framed between the Huron and the French in the sixteenth century and immediately end up being an enduring relationship. This likewise welcomed on common adversaries, for example, the Iroquois and the English. In 1615, French ministers known as Franciscans went among the Huron. The Black Robes lived among the Huron, learning their language and their ways while lecturing the Huron. The Jesuits preacher endeavors were significantly more noticeable. They impacted Huron individuals and great relations with them that kept going admirably into the eighteenth century. A Huron adaptation of the Bible was even composed during this timeframe. The Huron individuals came to be profoundly strict individuals who were dependent on God and Christianity, Just as those ho educated them. With everything taken into account, Christianity was pretty much given to the Huron individuals like a blessing, instead of being constrained on them in the savage, forceful way that the Spanish did. The Huron individuals felt firmly about their newly discovered religion and thrived with it. In spite of the Freshs severity against the individuals who didn't share their practices back in their country, the adventurers sent to these areas appeared to be substantially more lenient and comprehension. The French even appeared to see the Huron individuals as their equivalents, and it was normal for a French individual to participate in marriage with a Huron dative. Their societies mixed well with minimal inside clash. To finish up, religion hugy affects society. This is apparent from what we find in history today. Strict perspectives and practices frequently shape a countries culture and influence each part of the general public. Besides, this can cause incredible clash between those with restricting thoughts, as observed when countries do battle over a strict debate. Simultaneously, having such a significant number of various gatherings rehearsing a similar religion can unite them, strategically, socially, and educationally, beyond what a typical language could. I accept that if religion had in no watt been engaged with the colonization of Latitudinarian, at that point those nations of the area would encounter more clash and strife with each other. Today, Catholicism is amazingly famous among Latin Americans and is a shared conviction for them. A bound together religion can realize harmony, yet in addition the capacity to wreck it simultaneously, as new thoughts grow, for example, the Protestant Reformation. What used to be a solid, brought together Catholic church before long split into many clashing gatherings, notwithstanding their mutual confidence in God and Biblical lessons.

Stop and Press Free Essays

Now 20 years later I discovered a new life form on this planet. This news could be either scary or remarkable for some. Planet Neo is 200 miles away from earth and 300 miles away further from the sun than the earth. We will write a custom essay sample on Stop and Press or any similar topic only for you Order Now Neo evolved over the past twenty years and conditions became much more favorable to support life. A water system underground was discovered and it is here in this underground system life has been discovered. The condition beneath the surface of Planet Neo proved very favorable for life subjected to some harsh climate change. The underground water system has similar conditions to a hydrothermal vent on earth. The discovery of hydrothermal vents on earth has presented us with a possible explanation for the origin of life. On Planet Neo the conditions were the new life form was found was similar to the hydrothermal vent conditions on earth. The life form that was discovered was called Octillion looks somewhat like a squid. Octopus has a very hard diverse outer skeleton on its entire body. It has eight fat tentacles also layered with this skeleton. This creature has all the characteristics of living things. The seven characteristics of living things are: 1 . Movement 2. Reproduction 3. Sensitivity 4. Nutrition 5. Excretion 6. Respiration 7. Growth Octillion has each of the above characteristics that I will further explain in depth Movement- Octillion was recognized by its movement in the underground water system. Scientists created a camera that was able to withstand harsh temperatures, pressures and atmospheric changes; this camera was able to enter the underground water system, the scientists controls were the camera goes. I remember the first time he saw Octillion it was between two Jagged rocks, remembered vividly the camera scaring the creature from video footage and Octillion stimulus was to swim away very quickly and spew out purple slime from pores, on its back. Sensitivity – Octopus has very hard outer Skeleton that Is completely resistance to heat, there are little pore openings In Its back that open and close allowing It to moderate Its environment. This purple slime is not dangerous, sample shows it is a mixture of the same chemical found in a moss like looking substance on the wall of the rocks and seafloor which I called it purple because it is purple in color. Nutrition – Octillion as I said before spew out a purple slime whose chemical components is similar to that of a moss looking substance found on the stones and seafloor called purple. It as concluded that Octillion feeds on the purple from video footage again that gives it nutrition which causes it to respire allowing it to survive in the harsh underground water system. Excretion – the form in which Octillion got rid of waste was; it settles in a corner goes into the hard skeleton structure and little bubbles fill with a transparent liquid comes out the pores, I believe that Octillion excretes build up food from purple and it is transparent because it uses the chemicals from the purple to spew the colorful purple slime for stimulus and it then excrete the cytoplasm looking bubble. Reproduction – the bubbles that are seen during the excretion process accounts for reproduction. It is this cytoplasm looking bubbles that carry a form of DNA from the Octillion allowing it to reproduce. All these data can be accounted for because test and experiments where perform and from these experiments it was concluded that the bubbles is somewhat of a single cell organism, but not all survive due to the harsh conditions. Reproduction process will be able to occur under the same Temperature and pressure in which Octillion was born and discovered. Respiration – obviously in order for Octillion to stay alive it respires, cause it feed on the purple. Growth – I have been tracking Octillion for the past six months and it has grown approximately twelve centimeters longer from the first time it was discovered. So this is evidences that Octillion grows. On Earth these seven characteristics is use to tell if something is alive. Octillion exhibits all characteristics which is so amazing. Charles Darwin if alive today would have been so involved in these findings. Charles Darwin, the British naturalist, came up with the theory of evolution in 1859; he changed our idea of how life on earth developed. Darwin argued that all organisms evolve, or change, very slowly over time. These changes are adaptations that allow a species to survive in its environment. These adaptations happen by chance. If a species doesn’t adapt, it may become extinct. He called this process natural selection but it is often called the survival of the fittest. It can be seen that Octillion has adapted to the conditions on Planet Neo, and with that adaptation there is room for evolution. Personality and Leadership Samples †MyAssignmenthelp.com

Question: Discuss about the Personality and Leadership. Answer: Personality and Leadership Emotional intelligence refers to the ability of a person to monitor the growth of oneself and other people working with them and use an emotional approach to guide people and initiate activities in the management. It refers to the process of using the emotional capabilities of a person and initiating activities for the betterment of the company (Goleman, Boyatzis, McKee, 2013). The organizational behavior is highly motivated with the use of emotional intelligence in an organization as it motivates the employees and helps the employees to work more effectively for the organization. Under this process, a leader governs the behavior of all employee working in the organization and motivates them accordingly to initiate activities in the company. People in the environment gain feelings for things and get attached to them (Mittal, Sindhu, 2012). These things affect their emotions, so a good emotional leader is person who does not harm the interest of a person instead use these sources to motivate the person to work better. The purpose of this task is to provide a brief overview of the emotional intelligence as an important driver for effective leadership; additionally it also talks about my leadership potential to work in an organization and how can I improve my capabilities to increase effectiveness. The latter part of the essay talks about the review of my Emotional Intelligence test and its impact on your leadership potential. Yes I strongly believe that emotional intelligence is an important tool for the leaders to properly initiate their actions at workplace. In my perspective, emotional intelligence refers to the act under which the leader analyses the emotional need of the employee and enact their actions so as to create a bond with them. This activity helps the employees to share a bond with the employees and help organization to achieve better (Ct, Lopes, Salovey, Miners, 2010). Further it should be noted that it is the duty of a leader to form strategy and implement actions to complete the mission of the organization. A leader having emotional intelligence will make approachable goals which will provide benefits to the employees along with the topmanagement of the organization (Malo?, 2011). Further it should be noted that emotional intelligence is regarded as the best driver of effective leadership because it analyses and evaluates the all the circumstances and then take decision considering all the possible factors which can impact the growth of the company. Thus, this type of dynamic approach helps a leader to create an effective impact on the company. A leader having emotional intelligence gains benefits in initiating business activities while comparing other leaders without EI. This quality helps a leader to create self-awareness within them, as self-awareness refers to the ability to recognize and understand emotions of oneself and other people working with them (PANAIT, 2017). Self-awareness instigates a person to focus on their feelings and recognize their emotional state as well. Further, the personal competencies of a leader are also developed with the use of emotional intelligence in the organization; as with the use of these features they become capable to as sess their own capabilities and develop self-confidence as well. Thus, summing up the above analysis, I believe that emotional intelligence makes a person self-evaluative and initiate social-awareness within them which helps them to take decisions more correctly (Sadri, 2012). Furthermore talking about the response of my personal emotional intelligence test, I came to know about many facts that can successfully help me to develop my understanding towards an issue. The report claimed that I gained 52 marks in the test, it also stated that I have some basic skills when it comes to talk about identification, perceiving, and expressing my emotions to myself an others. This stated that I am not low and not too good in identifying and analyzing my capabilities. So, there is great scope for me to improve my core capabilities. By improving these aspects I can become an effective leader in my future professional career (Psychology Today, 2018). According to me, leadership is not only used in professional world but it is required in regular day to day activities of a person as well. Nobody listens to a person who does not have adequate leadership skills within them. So basically the leadership capabilities of a person make other people to listen to him. The result o f my personality evaluation test didnt come up good but it gave a positive hope to me. As I score average (52) marks which gives me an opportunity to improve my core competencies to become an effective leader. About my leadership potential, the test said that I have basic skills of emotional intelligence and communication but there is more scope of improvement. I need to work on my way of expressing myself and perception skills in order to become a successful leader (Kurvers, et. al., 2009). When it comes to leadership, the basic skills required in a good leader are communication, decision making quality, commitment and accountability. So, my test results said that I have an expression of all these capabilities in my behavior but I need to polish them more for my future professional growth. The result also positively exclaimed that I have potential to improve and excel in professional world just by working on the above mentioned skills and capabilities (Boyatzis, Good, Massa, 2012) . Thus, the report gave me a guide with the help of which I can easily become a good and influential leader in the environment. Now I just need to work on this information to further nurture my behavior as a good leader. An effective leader is a person who uses all his capabilities to bring an output from the work which they perform. So, the above mentioned information will adequately support me to improve myself for my future sustainable growth (Nga, Shamuganathan, 2010). I am an observant person but do not prefer saying everything in the group. So, first of all I need to change my nature of being less interactive and become a person who is a part of every conversation. This will make people listen my point of views as well. Interaction in groups helps people in encouraging their self-confidence and open up their mind as well. So, becoming more communicative will initiate positive changes in my personality. Also, all effective leaders are good listener along with good speaker, so I need to become a good listener as well. A person cannot effectively run a team without knowing the issues of their team. Further, the test tells about the factors which are lacking behind in my personality to become an effective leader. So, in this way this information becomes useful to me in my future pursuits of life. Also, as I mentioned earlier that leadership is an important feature which is required in every field and in both professional as well as personal life (Har ms, Cred, 2010). It should also be noted that the presence of emotional intelligence in a person makes them more proactive towards activities happening in the organization. So, according to Strang, Kuhnert, 2009 in order to build leadership skills in personality, I need to involve emotional intelligence in my regular activities. This will enhance my behavior towards things and change my attitude as well which will further boost up my growth. Many professional like Rockstuhl, Seiler, Ang, Van Dyne, Annen, 2011have shared their word on personality and leadership potential of a person. Some people say that leadership skills are not adopted by a person but instead they are inherent in a person. While other professional people argue against this statement by stating that leadership skills of a person changes according to the way with which they behave in the society and a person can easily change the leadership traits present within them in order to attain better results. I also agree to the second statement that a person can easily change their behavior by working on it. Further, many people say that leadership style is highly personal thing and it depends from person to person that how they work under different circumstances. According to Petrides, 2010 as the trait theory of leadership suggests that a person has inborn traits of the leading the environment and such traits cannot be developed in future as it is a part of t hem from the beginning. So, taking it in a positive way, it should be believed that I have average traits of leadership in me but rest I need to improve in order to achieve growth. Expression and perceiving are two most important aspects which were focused on my personality test. As the test stated that I need to improve these areas in order to attain the capabilities of emotional intelligence in my behavior. In this way I will gain a better position to read others, also with the help of this process it will become easy for me to understand others and feel their emotions as well. Also with this test I came to know that I certainly have more potential than I actually think of but I just need to properly analyze it and work on them. According to Antonakis, Ashkanasy, Dasborough, 2009, leadership traits which I or any other person possess are different and no other person can have that type of skills within them, so I need to mold my function in such a way that an effective output is created from the work which I perform. This test helped me knowing myself more in a better way. Also it helped me in valuing myself, during a conversation, when no person understands my views and values, at that point I need to stand up raise a point and make sense, instead of sitting at a corner. These are true traits of a leader which I need to develop within me which I got to know by reading information written by Groves, Pat McEnrue, Shen, 2008. Also I do not need to become a different person or change my personal attitude; the test results suggested me to overcome barriers just by honing my personality style. It is one of the most powerful key in developing a good leadership behavior. As firstly, I need to know about myself more so that I can find the areas where I need to make changes. Every person has their different leadership style like I have; I only need to be more confident in my decision and be more expressive as well. Along with expression, perceiving is also an important part of the effective leadership. According to the words of Cavazotte, Moreno, Hickmann, 20 12, I should not judge activities; instead I should be aware of activities and interpret them positively in order to get better outcomes. Every work presented in the environment has its own essence and important, it should not be judged or compared with any other persons work. Lastly, it should be noted that developing emotional intelligence is an important task in the growth process of a persons effective leadership process. Development of this phase can easily improve my personal skills to become a good professional. The emotional intelligence test adequately supported in knowing my flaws and working on them to become better. This test helped me knowing about my personality traits which I didnt knew existed in me. The overall result of the test appeared satisfactory. Thus, in the limelight of above mentioned events, it should be noted that emotional intelligence is an important part of the growth process of an individual as it not only helps in making good decision but also in und erstanding team mates as well. Further, the essay talks about my personality test and skills where I need to improve in order to become a successful effective leader. References Boyatzis, R. E., Good, D., Massa, R. (2012). Indicate a Person Who Has Had a Significant Influence on Me Essays

Indicate a Person Who Has Had a Significant Influence on Me Essays Indicate a Person Who Has Had a Significant Influence on Me Essay Indicate a Person Who Has Had a Significant Influence on Me Essay Indicate a person who has had a significant influence on you, and describe that influence? I was born in Taiwan, a small island near China. My family live there and I was lived there until eight grade, after that I went to United States of America for high school, because my mom wants me to learn how to speak awesome English. In my country, the educational system is divided into four part, elementary, middle school, high school, and college, there are still some higher educations above college, but most people stop at college. I was a straight A student until eighth grade, but then I influenced by a couple of bad friends. They were those students that never paid attention in class and talked a lot, always driving teacher nuts. Sometimes they would even skip classes and go to a comic book store. I was one of them for a long period of time, probably one year. Due to my poor decision, my grade dropped a lot. I went from an A to a D, so my teacher punished me with write hundreds times that I will get good grades next time, but I never do, I seriously hated my life during this time. One day, my Chinese teacher came up to me and said,† you are a smart person, so why are you hanging out with those kids? You should be smart enough to figure out that what you are doing now is killing your future. † I didn’t care too much, but I said I would do my best to improve the situation. Still I knew I was totally lying. He said, â€Å"I won’t give up on you; I believed you can do it. † I smiled and walked away, kept doing the same thing over and over again. I could have really cared less about what was going on in the school, like tests and final exams. Never studied for them. After a couple of weeks, my teacher came up with a great idea, at least that’s what he thought. He tried to make a deal with saying that if I pulled up my grade; he wouldn’t make me to write those apologize papers. I thought yeah, why not. I said that I would because I didn’t want to make him mad by not doing what he told me to. He came up with lots methods, just wanting to get me to study, but none of it worked. One day he said something that made me feel like what I had done all these times, all I did were really a waste of my ife. He said, â€Å"tell you to study hard, it wasn’t my purpose, I was trying to teach you how to make a good decision to make you a better future, that’s what school here for, teach you to make a good decision. † After that, I decided to make good choices that will make my life easier later on. I am really thankful that teacher that pulled me back on to the right track. If he hadn’t ca me up to me and gave me those great suggestion, I would not be here in America what I have a chance for better education.

Workplace Communication Skills for ESL Classes

Workplace Communication Skills for ESL Classes In workplace communications, with friends, strangers, etc. there are unwritten rules that are followed when speaking English. These unwritten rules are often referred to as register use or workplace communication skills when referring to employment. Good workplace communication skills use can help you communicate effectively. Incorrect workplace communication can cause problems at work, cause people to ignore you, or, at best, send the wrong message. Of course, correct workplace communication is very difficult for many learners of English. To begin with, lets look at some example conversations to help understand  the correct type of register use in various situations. Examples of Correct Register Use (Wife to Husband) Hi honey, how was your day?Great. We got a lot done. And yours?Fine, but stressful. Pass me that magazine, please. Here you go. (Friend to Friend) Hi Charlie, can you give me a hand?Sure Peter. Whats up?I cant get this to work. Why dont you try to use a screwdriver? (Subordinate to Superior - for workplace communications) Good Morning, Mr. Jones, may I ask you a question?Certainly, how can I help you? (Superior to Subordinate - for workplace communications) Excuse me Peter, we seem to be having a problem with the Smith account. Wed better get together to discuss the situation.Thats a good idea Ms Amons, would 4 oclock suit you? (Man Speaking to Stranger) Pardon me. Do you think you could give me the time?Certainly, its twelve thirty.Thank you.Not at all. Notice how the language used becomes more formal as the relationship becomes less personal. In the first relationship, a married couple, the wife uses the imperative form which would be inappropriate with a superior in for workplace communications. In the last conversation, the man asks using an indirect question as a means of making his question more polite. Examples of Incorrect Register Use (Wife to Husband) Hello, how are you today?Im fine. Would you mind passing me the bread?Certainly. Would you like some butter with your bread?Yes, please. Thank you very much. (Friend to Friend) Hello Mr. Jones. May I ask you a question?Certainly. How many I help you?Do you think you could help me with this?Id be happy to help you. (Subordinate to Superior - for workplace communications) Good Morning, Frank. I need a raise.Do you really? Well, forget about it! (Superior to Subordinate - for workplace communications) Hey Jack, what are you doing?! Get to work!Hey, Ill take as much time as I need. (Man Speaking to Stranger) You! Tell me where the  supermarket is.There. In these examples, the formal language used for the married couple and friends is much too exaggerated for daily discourse. The examples of for workplace communications, and of the man speaking to a stranger, show that the direct language often used with friends or family is too impolite for these types of for workplace communication. Of course, correct for workplace communication and register use also depends on the situation and the tone of voice you use. Capital Punishment Term Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Capital Punishment - Term Paper Example The arguments of Pojman, which supports capital punishment, were based on three premises from anecdotal evidence. First, the deterrent effect of an object is increased with the increased degree of fear it can cause to a person. Second, people fear death more than any humane punishment, and third, death penalty is a humane punishment. From these premises, the author concludes that the death penalty is a more effective mechanism to deter people from committing homicide compared to long imprisonment (277). The argument presented was potentially sound since it was supported by coherent reasoning. However, while the first premise is logical, the last two premises have a potential conflict since not all criminals are fearful of death and generally, capital punishment is inhumane. Nevertheless, the author’s conclusion still follows his premises since there is a high chance that potential criminals will avoid committing first degree crime if they are aware that the sentence that await s them is death compared to long imprisonment. However, it is argued that capital punishment is not an appropriate sentence to major offenders. There is also a strong contention against the principle that the death penalty has a greater deterrence compared to long imprisonment. ... However, it is argued that life as it is, has an intrinsic value. This makes it unjust and immoral to permit the gambling of the lives of murderers. For the anecdotal argument, one of the premises of the proponent states that the death penalty is a humane punishment. This premise is a weak assumption since it is contended that the moral values of society do not perceive death penalty as acceptable. Thus, killing a person is inhumane. Due to the weak premises of the proponent, it cannot be concluded justly that capital punishment, in contrast to long term imprisonment, has a greater deterrence among potential criminals. A study of Donohue and Wolfers on the homicide rates in US revealed that there is no statistical evidence to prove that the death penalty has a substantial deterrent effect on homicide commission. The findings of the time series analysis showed that as the death penalty execution rose up from 1920s to 1930s, homicide rates also increased while both of the execution and homicide rates went down from 1940s to 1950s (796). Moreover, Donohue and Wolfers also conducted a comparative study between Canada and US to determine if execution rates can significantly reduce homicide rates. The findings showed that both US and Canada showed similar changes in homicide rates amidst country specific legislations that directly affected their execution rates. For instance, when Canada did not conduct executions in 1962, its homicide rates were still close to the US. In a similar way, when US suspended its death penalty policy in 1972, both the execution and homicide rates of US and Canada rose altogether (799). This study supports the argument that capital punishment does not significantly influence homicide rates,

Social Media - enterainment Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Social Media - enterainment - Assignment Example It is not clear if there was something fishy happening or if he won fairly (Jake, 2015). Social media has come to be a very huge part of everyone’s daily life more specifically with celebrities. Pop stars such as Justin Beiber and Lady Gaga, use of Face book and Twitter has become an essential aspect for both the celebrity especially for the interaction with fans as well as updating the fans on the celebrities’ latest news, dates of concert tours and their general thoughts. However, it may as well be used as a quite efficient tool for marketing for charity and self promotion. For self promotion, most celebrities gain fans and followers very quickly on twitter and Facebook due to the fact that their fans are in need to be updated on the celebrities’ lives. This means that such celebrities have high chances of marketing to a captive audience. At times this happens to be so well done such that no fan could comprehend that it is part some advertising campaign. A good example is the California Dreams Tour of 2011 for Katy Perry where the tweets of fans got to be shown over the jumbo-tron at the time of her live performance so as to get the crowd interact with the show. It was a means of receiving feedback on the show as well increase followers that were not available in the past. However, it is as well perfect for making fan loyalty stronger. Rihanna used Facebook to engage fans during the release of her 2011 album. The lyrics as well as other information for only Facebook fans were leaked at the back the scenes footage. Through this she gained followe rs, sales as well as publicity. For the promotion of charity or a cause, celebrities make use of social media for spreading information on causes the support as well as charity. Britney Spears, Kim Kardeshian and Ellen Degeneres tweeted as a way to spread information on Berry Family in 2011. It was about the tragic car accident that involved a family of 5 where the parents died and left the children

Secure Encounter-based Mobile Social Networks

Secure Encounter-based Mobile Social Networks ABSTRACT: Encounter-based social networks and encounter-based systems link users who share a location at the same time, as opposed to the traditional social network paradigm of linking users who have an offline friendship. This new approach presents challenges that are fundamentally different from those tackled by previous social network designs. In this paper, we explore the functional and security requirements for these new systems, such as availability, security, and privacy, and present several design options for building secure encounter-based social networks. To highlight these challenges we examine one recently proposed encounter-based social network design and compare it to a set of idealized security and functionality requirements. We show that it is vulnerable to several attacks, including impersonation, collusion, and privacy breaching, even though it was designed specifically for security. Mindful of the possible pitfalls, we construct a flexible framework for secure encounter-base d social networks, which can be used to construct networks that offer different security, privacy, and availability guarantees. We describe two example constructions derived from this framework, and consider each in terms of the ideal requirements. Some of our new designs fulfill more requirements in terms of system security, reliability, and privacy than previous work. We also evaluate real-world performance of one of our designs by implementing a proof-of-concept iPhone application called MeetUp. Experiments highlight the potential of our system and hint at the deployability of our designs on a large scale EXISTING SYSTEM: Early work assumed that the parties could communicate over a public but authenticated channel or, equivalently, assumed a passive adversary. This assumption was relaxed in later work, which considered an active adversary who could modify all messages sent between the two parties. In the Traditional Social network site present a dra-matically different set of challenges, not the least of which are security and privacy of users and authenticity of the other party in a conversation. Guarantees that are trivial in traditional social networks, such as authenticity (ensuring one is com-municating with the desired person), become open problems in encounter-based networks. Additionally, requirements like anonymity—a feature that is not needed in most traditional online social networks based on prior face-to-face contact— need to be considered in encounter-based networks. This is desirable because users would expect information about people they happen to meet to stay private. Fu rthermore, since people do not automatically place their trust in others simply based on presence in the same location, it is also desirable to reveal the minimum amount of information required for future secure communication. Sharing detailed personal information is not the primary goal of encounter-based networks, but can of course be easily implemented if both users agree upon the successful verified encounter.. PROPOSED SYSTEM: In proposed system we consider fundamental requirements for encounter-based social networks. We note that in addition to basic functionality like high availability, scalability, and robustness to failure, these systems should provide several security guarantees, including privacy in the form of unlinkability of users sharing an encounter, confidentiality of data exchanged among encounter participants, and authentication of both users in a two-party conversation. We construct a flexible frame-work for secure encounter-based social networks, which can be used to construct networks that offer different security, privacy , and availability guarantees. We describe two example constructions derived from this framework, and consider each in terms of the ideal requirements. Some of our new designs fulfill more requirements in terms of system security, reliability, and privacy than previous work. The first experience of interaction you want to provide an incoming user are the updates and responses about his activity in the system. This keeps the user updated about what’s going on in here. Although encounter-based systems appear very analogous to existing social networks, they present a considerably different set of challenges, out of which are security and privacy of users and authenticity of the other party in a conversation are important. Assurances that are trivial in traditional social networks, such as authenticity (ensuring one is communicating with the desired person), become unwrapped problems in encounter-based networks. Additionally, requirements like obscurity—a feature that is not needed in most usual online social networks based on prior face-to-face contact—need to be considered in encounter-based networks. This is desirable because users would look forward for information about people they happen to meet to stay private. Also, since people do not automatically place their faith in others simply based on presence in the same location, it is also desirable to disclose the minimum amount of information required for future secure communication . Sharing complete personal information is not the primary goal of encounter-based networks, but can of-course be easily put into practice if both users agree upon the successful verified encounter. we consider basic requirements for encounter-based social networks in addition to basic functionality like high availability, scalability, privacy security. We propose specific design architecture for encounter-based social network. In this architecture suggest two possible implementation, each conspicuous a balance between performance and security. To highlights of challenges it was designed for specifically secure centralized server. ARCHITECTURE: MODULES: Privacy or unlink ability. The privacy of two parties sharing an encounter must be protected, even from others in the vicinity who may also participate in simultaneous encounters. In this case, privacy means that an external adversary (even one taking part in the encounter or colluding with a â€Å"bulletin board† or rendezvous server to be used in latter phase) who is not one of the two users of interest should not be able to conclusively determine that two users have made a connection. Authenticity Meaning that when two users decide to make a connection, they should be assured that messages indeed originate from each other. Confidentiality Meaning that information exchanged between two users should be accessible only to them. Availability. As such, the infrastructure to exchange encounter information should be accessible most of the time. The unavailability of individual users should not affect the availability of other users. Since the time at which encounter parties check for potential encounters associated with their activities could be arbitrary, the encounter-based social network is more sensitive to availability than conventional social networks. Scalability. With typical social networks being large in size, any potential social network design, including those based on encounters, should scale to support a large number of simultaneous users. This requires minimizing dependence on a centralized entity.

Fixed Income Securities

ANSWERS TO QUESTIONS FOR CHAPTER 1 (Questions are in bold print followed by answers. ) 2. What is meant by a mortgage-backed security? A mortgage-backed security is a security backed by one or more mortgage loans. Like a bond that is callable, a mortgage-backed security allows the investor to grant the borrower an option. 4. What is the cash flow of a 10-year bond that pays coupon interest semiannually, has a coupon rate of 7%, and has a par value of $100,000? The principal or par value of a bond is the amount that the issuer agrees to repay the bondholder at the maturity date. The coupon rate multiplied by the principal of the bond provides the dollar amount of the coupon (or annual amount of the interest payment). A 10-year bond with a 7% annual coupon rate and a principal of $100,000 will pay semiannual interest of (0. 07/2)($100,000) = $3,500 for 10(2) = 20 periods. Thus, the cash flow is $3,500. In addition to this periodic cash, the issuer of the bond is obligated to pay back th e principal of $100,000 at the time the last $3,500 is paid. 6. Give three reasons why the maturity of a bond is important. There are three reasons why the term to maturity of a bond is important. First, the term to maturity indicates the time period over which the holder of the bond can expect to receive the coupon payments and the number of years before the principal will be paid in full. Second, the term to maturity is important because the yield on a bond depends on it. The shape of the yield curve determines how the term to maturity affects the yield. Third, the price of a bond will fluctuate over its life as yields in the market change. The volatility of a bond’s price is dependent on its maturity. More specifically, with all other factors constant, the longer the maturity of a bond, the greater the price volatility resulting from a change in market yields. 8. Explain whether or not an investor can determine today what the cash flow of a floating-rate bond will be. Floati ng-rate bonds are issues where the coupon rate resets periodically based on a general formula equal to the reference rate plus the quoted margin. The reference rate is some index subject to change. The exact change is unknown and uncertain. Thus, an investor cannot determine today what the cash flow of a floating-rate bond will be in the future. 10. What is an inverse-floating-rate bond? While the coupon on floating-rate bonds reliant on an interest rate benchmark typically rises as the benchmark rises and falls as the benchmark falls, there are issues whose coupon interest rate moves in the opposite direction from the change in interest rates. Such issues are called inverse floaters. 12. (a) What is meant by an amortizing security? The principal repayment of a bond issue can be for either the total principal to be repaid at maturity or for the principal to be repaid over the life of the bond. In the latter case, there is a schedule of principal repayments. This schedule is called an amortization schedule. Loans that have this amortizing feature are automobile loans and home mortgage loans. There are securities that are created from loans that have an amortization schedule. These securities will then have a schedule of periodic principal repayments.Such securities are referred to as amortizing securities. (b) Why is the maturity of an amortizing security not a useful measure? For amortizing securities, investors do not talk in terms of a bond’s maturity. This is because the stated maturity of such securities only identifies when the final principal payment will be made. The repayment of the principal is being made over time. 14. What does the call feature in a bond entitle the issuer to do? The most common type of option embedded in a bond is a call feature. This provision grants the issuer the right to retire the debt, fully or partially, before the scheduled maturity date. 16. What does the put feature in a bond entitle the bondholder to do? An issue wit h a put provision included in the indenture grants the bondholder the right to sell the issue back to the issuer at par value on designated dates. The advantage to the bondholder is related to the possibility that if interest rates rise after the issue date (thereby reducing a bond’s price) the bondholder can force the issuer to redeem the bond at par value. 8. How do market participants gauge the default risk of a bond issue? It is common to define credit risk as the risk that the issuer of a bond will fail to satisfy the terms of the obligation with respect to the timely payment of interest and repayment of the amount borrowed. This form of credit risk is called default risk. Market participants gauge the default risk of an issue by looking at the default rating or credit rating assigned to a bond issue by one of the three rating companies—Standard & Poor’s, Moody’s, and Fitch. 0. Does an investor who purchases a zero-coupon bond face reinvestment risk? The calculation of the yield of a bond assumes that the cash flows received are reinvested. The additional income from such reinvestment, sometimes called interest-on-interest, depends on the prevailing interest-rate levels at the time of reinvestment, as well as on the reinvestment strategy. Variability in the reinvestment rate of a given strategy because of changes in market interest rates is called reinvestment risk. This risk is that the interest rate at which interim cash flows can be reinvested will fall. Reinvestment risk is greater for longer holding periods, as well as for bonds with large, early cash flows, such as high-coupon bonds. For zero-coupon bonds, interest is reinvested at the same rate as the coupon rate. This eliminates any risk associated with the possibility that coupon payments will be reinvested at a lower rate. However, if rates go up, then the zero coupon bond will fall in value because its â€Å"locked-in† rate is below the higher market rate. 22.W hat is meant by marking a position to market? Marking a position to market means that periodically the market value of a portfolio must be determined. Thus, it can refer to the practice of reporting the value of assets on a market rather than book value basis. Marking to market can also refer to settling or reconciling changes in the value of futures contracts on a daily basis. 24. What is risk risk? There have been new and innovative structures introduced into the bond market. Money managers do not always understand the risk/return characteristics of these securities.Risk risk is defined as not knowing what the risk of a security is because those involved in issuing and buying securities are not aware of what can happen. There are two ways to mitigate or eliminate risk risk. The first approach is to keep up with the literature on the state-of-the-art methodologies for analyzing securities. The second approach is to avoid securities that are not clearly understood. 26. What is a pri ce-risk-transferring innovation? A price-risk-transferring innovation is an innovation that provides market participants with more efficient means for dealing with price or exchange rate risk.

The Financial Aspect On An Incorporated Entity Finance Essay - Free Essay Example

Sample details Pages: 8 Words: 2366 Downloads: 3 Date added: 2017/06/26 Category Finance Essay Type Narrative essay Did you like this example? Let me first begin by explaining what a cash flow statement is. To put it simply, a cash flow statement is rather self-explanatory in that it details the flow of cash in and out of the business. It shows where cash comes from and where the said cash goes to. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "The Financial Aspect On An Incorporated Entity Finance Essay" essay for you Create order For example, a typical cash flow statement would include cash generated from sales and on the flip-side, taxes that are paid. Another form of financial statement is the income statement. The income statement is also sometimes referred to as the profit and loss statement. As with cash flow statements, income statements are also rather self-explanatory. This is perhaps more apparent to the layman if they are referred to as profit and loss statements. These statements show whether a company is running on a profit or a loss for a given period. As with other forms of financial statements, balance sheets also reflect on the financial health of the company. However, balance sheets are typically much more comprehensive and often offer a more detailed look at a companys financial standing. It details who owes the company what, who the company owes, and what properties the company owns, amongst other things. Equity statements on the other hand explains the changes in the companys reta ined earnings. It would typically contain items such as changes in ownership stake in the company and the level of profit or surplus retained over a specified period. Also often detailed are dividend payouts and issuance of stocks. Now armed with some rudimentary knowledge of what financial statements are, we are perhaps better equipped to navigate towards the main focus of this essay the importance of financial statements to various groups. Investors In no particular order, I shall first discuss the importance of financial statements through the lens of a prospective investor. As one might imagine, it would probably not be a very good idea to invest ones hard earned money into a financially ill business. In a nutshell, this is why financial statements bare such great importance to the prospective investor. Financial statements provide a vital look into the inner workings of a business, painting a better picture of how the said business is run and thus helping investors better calculate risk. That in turn helps them make better investment choices, hopefully. For instance, an analysis of an income statement would show whether or not the target of investment is turning a profit. This, is probably as good a yardstick as any in assessing a companies success, at least on the surface. Cash flow statements are also of considerable importance to prospective investors as it displays the the movement of cash through the business. An investor could use the cash flow statement in tandem with the the companies net income to determine whether the volume of cash moving through the company is sufficient to make their investment efforts worthwhile. Balance sheets as discussed above, provide a snapshot of a companies financial wellbeing for a specific duration of time. Balance sheets thus provide integral data detailing the assets of a business which would include prior investments contradicted with the liabilities the business owes. Based on the assumption that no self-respecting investor would want to make a loss on his/her investment, the balance sheet would show clearly if the business in rolling in debt with not much prospect of profitability and that point in itself clearly underlines the importance of the balance sheet to investors. Equity statements like all other forms of financial statements really come in handy when trying to assess the financial standing of a company. Equity statements are used typic ally, but not exclusively, when deducing a companys debt-to-equity ratio. The investor would look at the equity statement and draw a comparison between the companys cumulative debt and the shareholders equity. This helps paint a detailed picture of a companys financial health, specifically and for lack of a better word, its investability. Employees It is often said that a company is but only the sum of its employees. Having argued thus, it is a hardly debatable notion that financial statements are as important to individual employees as they are to anyone. Financial statements can help the individual employee gauge the stability of their current job and decide if it is necessary to perhaps seek greener pastures elsewhere. Now, this might not necessarily be good for the business in question, but from an employees perspective it is a perfectly valid point. Wouldnt you want prior knowledge if the business you work for was free-falling down the financial hill? Additionally, these reports also come in handy when making bargaining agreements with the management in terms of remuneration, promotions and so forth. It is worth nothing, however, that it is these financial statements are more commonly reviewed by workers unions or similarly designated bodies rather that the individual employee himself. Specifically, balance sheets are important as it helps the employee assess the financial stability of the firm he or she is working for. For instance a registered union may review a companies balance sheet and notice that it has $500million in available cash. The union representative may then attempt to persuade the company to raise employee salaries by a margin realistically within the companys financial parameters, say by 5 percent, knowing full well that the raise would only cost the company and additional $2million. A labor representative may also analyze a companys income statement to weigh revenue and expense levels. Taking into consideration the breakdown of the income statement the representative could show, if it is the case, that perhaps salaries of employees only constitute a proportionally small percentage of the companies expenditure. The said representative could then advocate for a raise on behalf of the employees arguing that the cost involved with giving that raise would not adversely affect the company but rather benefit the firm by boosting the morale and hence effectiveness of its staff. Much of the same arguments as to why an employee or a union would want to review a business income statement conveniently also applies to cash flow statements. The differing point here being that what would be reviewed in a cash flow statement is the companies operating cash activities. Its importance towards the employee would be that cash flow statements would show the total cash payments against which total staff salaries could be compared with to gauge whether employees of the business are being fairly compensated. Equity statements on the other hand, are not of much use to the average individual employee. However, the same cannot be said for workers unions. As equity statements would detail things such as dividend payouts, it would show if the directors are being paid massive dividends at the expense of the average employee as was the case with General Motors during the a utomotive industry meltdown last year. Top execs were paid bonuses worth hundreds of millions of dollars while the company as a whole was so deep in financial quicksand that it required a bailout from the US federal government. Lenders Thirdly, we shall consider the importance of financial statements from the perspective of lenders. As providers of capital, lenders namely banks and financial institutions are understandably very concerned with a companys financial health as it reflects directly on the aforementioned companys credit worthiness. Much like how you and I are required to produce income documents upon application of a loan or any other credit facility for that matter, company owners are also usually required to produce a whole bevy of financial statements before any form of credit is issued by the lender. These documents prepared to certain industry standards serve to paint as accurate a picture as possible of the companys current financial standing and when extrapolated help predict how the company will perform for the tenure of the loan. The balance sheet, by detailing a companys asset investments paint a great portion of this picture. Since the balance sheet also list a companys outstanding debt a nd equity components, it helps creditors assess their relative position amongst the rest of a companys capital composition. On the other hand, profit and loss statements or income statements, are of much use to creditors as it would show whether a company has sustained growth or suffering a loss over a specified period. This then assist the lender in plotting the trend which they will then use, in conjunction with other factors to determine how well the company will be able to repay the loan. As with other financial statements, cash flow statements also prove to be of great importance towards creditors in much the same way as the other forms of financial statements discussed above in that it paints a picture of a companys credit worthiness. However, it is worth noting that a paradox exist when it comes to cash flow statements and its relationship with lenders. The more detailed the cash flow statement is, the less likely the applicant business has anything to hide. Bearing thi s in mind, the cost of preparing a financial statement rises exponentially with the level of detail involved. This increase in cost is associated with the practical and logistical constraints of compiling every single cash transaction that the business undertakes. Thus said, it is of utmost importance that businesses strike the golden balance between cost and providing lenders with a sufficient cash flow information within the statement. Suppliers Apart from the aforementioned parties, suppliers also have an interest in the analysis of a companys financial background via financial statements. Suppliers and vendors rely on the statements to asses the financial standing of clients, especially those they intend on establishing a long-term relationship with, to ensure that they are not getting into a bad deal. However, setting themselves apart from the parties discussed above, suppliers tend to rely more on statements containing information on the business partners or owners. The underlying principle behind this phenomenon is the fact that in a trade environment where it would be logistically impossible to check their customers backgrounds in its entirety, credit risk on the part of supplier simply skyrockets. This information is typically used as part of the suppliers due diligence and compliance processes, which are crucial in identifying the risk involved in transacting with a particular client. When these processes are undertaken are largely dictated by the suppliers themselves, however it may also be determined by government or industry regulators. For example, when not governed by regulation, a supplier may choose to play it safe by implementing due-diligence processes prior to establishing a relationship with the client business or only once transactions hit a certain threshold to give clients a chance to sample a vendors goods or services. Another peculiarity with the way vendors or suppliers utilize financial statements is that they generally tend to rely on specific, isolated bits of informations within these statements when financially profiling their clients. These bits might take the form of bankruptcy flags deduced from balance sheets, liquidity data inferred from cash flow statements and even financial statements with an internal focus which they then use to evaluate whether a clients business model is a potentially profitable or otherwise. However, where available, income statement s would be favourable as they negate the need for guess work in determining a client business profitability. Customers Moving on, we shall now consider the importance of financial statements towards the stakeholders perhaps most coveted by businesses the valued customer. Whilst the layman would rarely look into each type of financial statement in isolation, when consolidated and simplified, perhaps into a financial report or an article found in he business section of the daily paper, the information in financial statements can be extremely useful to the consumer. Allow me to illustrate my point. Consumers no doubt prefer doing business with well established companies as these businesses generally offer better after sales service and customer support. However, in some sectors like the automotive and real estate industries, longevity in a company is often at top of a consumers priorities when faced with the choice of who to do business with. Information hypothesized from financial statements provide this valuable insight. Another prime example I shall use to fortify my point has to do with the recen t surge in environmental awareness. Today, more consumers than ever are demanding that companies behave socially and environmentally responsibly. As a direct result, more and more companies are incorporating such metrics into their financial documents to reflect this much desired virtue. Government Lastly, a companys financial statements also play an irreplaceable role to the governments of the nations in which the companies operate. It is common knowledge that a great portion of a governments income comes from corporate tax paid by businesses that operate in that country. Thus, financial statements allow governments the luxury of calculating future budgets by way of approximating the taxes that each company would pay based on its prior and projected performance. In more detail, companies balance sheets are scrutinized by government agencies and regulators to ensure that companies are being run in compliance with legislation passed by the government. On a darker note, law enforcement often analyzes the cash flow statements of companies as it details the migration of cash in and out of the company. As such, this document would be as good as any when looking for evidence of money laundering. Conclusion Dearest reader, much ink has been spilled by both scholars and members of industry alike in an effort to classify financial statements into various groups. Although this has largely been a successful endeavor as discussed in the foreword of the essay, the more minute details of what each type of financial statement is remains till this day a subject of debate and interpretation. Perhaps, though, a more futile question to ask is to whom are financial statements important?. To that question and in concluding this essay, I humbly opine that while financial statements are important to several major groups as outlined throughout the essay, on a broader scale, these mere pieces of paper with numbers jotted across them would be of great importance to any group or individual with an interest in the economic aspect of any particular company.
